Shorewood SEED Foundation believes strong schools equal a strong community. Your donation to SEED helps provide teacher and district grants to enhance educational opportunities for our students.

$154,397.79 in district and teacher grants funded during the 2023-24 school year.


District Grants

  • Classroom Libraries – $100,000
    • $75,000 for classroom library trade books for all students grades K-8
    • $25,000 for teacher editions
  • Professional Development – $27,000
    • $16,640 for new ELA education curriculum professional development
    • Up to $10,000 for other curriculum and professional development this summer.
  • Scholarships and Activity Fund for field trips & travel – $5,000

Teacher Grants

SHS Chemistry equipment
This grant funds chemistry equipment for SHS students including 4 magnetic stirrer/hot plates, 2 analytical balances, and 6 Go Direct Gas pressure sensors. Equipment utilized by ~150 SHS students each year.
Grant amount: $6,747.79


SHS PAWS Wellness Room
Grant Description: SHS PAWS is a wellness room created by SHS counselors for students who feel stressed, overwhelmed, or who are struggling with other emotions. This grant funds decor, supplies, materials, books, and other items to make this an inviting, safe, place for students to relax and reboot.
Grant amount: $1,700


Atwater and Lake Bluff Drums
Grant Description: Our students have rhythm! This grant funds drums for students at Atwater and Lake Bluff allowing for 100% student engagement in music classes and a 1-to-1 ratio of students to instruments.

Atwater and Lake Bluff Decodable Books
Grant Description: Hooked on phonics! This grant funds books students can use to sound out (“decode”) and read mostly independently once they learn a specific phonics pattern. These books are for use in Lake Bluff and Atwater kindergarten classrooms for independent reading time and to take home, extending learning beyond the classroom.

Courageous Community for Equity
Grant Description: This grant supports the district’s Courageous Community for Equity program through speakers, books, and materials. This program creates an opportunity for Shorewood staff to engage in professional learning, community building and reflection activities that allow them to surface current realities, explore their individual impact, and create new practices in our schools in order to increase a sense of belonging for students, staff, and families and promote staff retention. 
Grant amount: $2,850


SIS Cooperative Learning & Team Building
Grant Description: This grant funds materials and equipment for cooperative learning and team building activities needed to create a structured and intentional setting during flextime at the Intermediate School. Students can choose to participate in social and emotional learning activities like club time or other group activities which foster self-esteem and self-expression.
