If there’s one prevailing sentiment echoing through the hallways of Shorewood High School this academic year, it’s undeniably EXCITEMENT! And behind this wave of enthusiasm lies the incredible impact of the SEED Foundation’s classroom grants and district funding for the 2023-24 academic year. These donations have not only kept our schools up-to-date with cutting-edge technologies but have also ignited a spark in our students’ passion for learning.
Let’s dive into the transformative journey this funding has paved for our high school biology lab, physics lab, graphic arts lab, and entire student population with Go Guardian Tech Licensing.
Traci Murphy, the dynamic force behind 9th-grade biology and 11/12th-grade Anatomy and Physiology, expressed how thirty state-of-the-art microscopes have revolutionized the learning experience. Traci applied and was approved for a classroom grant for these microscopes through SEED in the spring of 2023. According to Traci, these microscopes are not just tools; they are catalysts for curiosity, sparking a deeper understanding of biological concepts. The impact is immeasurable, creating an immersive environment that fosters analytical and observational skills crucial for our students’ future success.
Regina Schindel, also received a classroom grant through SEED in 2023. Schindel, who champions high school physics, introduced wireless cars that have taken hands-on experiments to a whole new level. Beyond static demonstrations, these cars enable real-time data collection, analysis, and collaborative problem-solving. The result? A more dynamic and interactive learning environment that transcends students’ math abilities, making STEM subjects not just accessible but also enjoyable.
Amelia Hernandez, with her grant for Mac computers in the graphic arts lab, highlighted the essential role these devices play in empowering students’ creativity. Access to industry-standard software like Adobe opens doors to endless possibilities, from design foundation to visual journalism. SHS Student Lucie Butler’s capstone project stands as a testament to the incredible outcomes possible when students have the tools to unleash their creative potential.
And let’s not forget the investment in GoGuardian for all devices owned by the Shorewood School District, a crucial step in ensuring digital safety and guidance. In a recent Q&A session with Jack Wallner, the Instructional Technology Manager, the SEED Foundation’s commitment to enhancing digital safety and education is on full display. GoGuardian’s impact on 1:1 devices for all students in grades 5-12 encompasses approximately 1100 students. The collaboration between SEED and Shorewood School District, exemplified through GoGuardian, illustrates the proactive steps taken to ensure a secure, enriching, and technologically advanced educational experience for all students.
As we reflect on these incredible strides in education, we can’t help but feel grateful for the outstanding teachers and staff in Shorewood. Their relentless pursuit of state-of-the-art equipment and technologies continues to engage and uplift our students, nurturing both their interests and abilities.
Now, it’s our turn to give back. Consider thanking a teacher through the SEED Foundation Excellence in Teaching Awards or making a donation. Your support is vital in ensuring that outstanding programs continue to flourish in Shorewood, where Excellence means more than just a word – it’s a way of life.
Together, let’s continue to spark curiosity, empower education, and build a brighter future for Shorewood Public Schools.
