A Lifelong Commitment to Education

Dr. Bryan Davis, our Shorewood School District Superintendent, has committed to and nurtured a lifelong dedication to public education over the last 23 years. His mother, grandmother, and great grandmother were Wisconsin public school teachers, and their influence helped to guide Dr. Davis in his choice to pursue a career in public education.

Since graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1997 with a Business Education degree, Dr. Davis has been a high school teacher and coach, an Associate Principal, a Principal and then served as Superintendent of the Columbus School District before arriving in Shorewood in 2015 with his family. Being a Superintendent is a challenging position, but Dr. Davis sees the choice as continuation of his commitment to public education. “It has always been energizing for me to be in a school environment. I like the ability to make a difference, and I really enjoy the community engagement part of the job.”

The Davis family embraced the move from Columbus to Shorewood. They wanted three of their four daughters to attend the excellent Shorewood Schools, and they wanted to live in a more urban, walkable and diverse community, closer to the city of Milwaukee.

While it cannot be easy to be children of the Superintendent, the Davis girls have thrived and have given back to our community. Oldest daughter Kayla graduated from Columbus High School in 2014, and then graduated from UW Oshkosh in 2018. Lauren graduated from Shorewood High School in 2018 (two graduations in one year!) and is presently a sophomore at UW Eau Claire. And Madison and Aliyah are attending Shorewood High School as a junior and freshman, respectively. Dawn Davis manages the busy household, is a professional commercial real estate broker, and volunteers as a SEED board member.

In the fall of Dr. Davis’s arrival in 2015, SEED and the Shorewood School District raised over $1 million to fund Authentic Learning opportunities through out our schools in grades K-12. According to Dr. Davis, “The support of SEED for public education is unparalleled to any district this size and is unlike any other place I have been. The state education budget is limited and SEED’s annual support has contributed significantly to Authentic Learning, District Technology, Student Wellness, Equity, and Classroom Grants for our teachers. This year is very unusual, and the SEED Annual Fund will support the District’s unprecedented Covid-19 needs to ensure all of our students’ educational experience is safe and second to none. Thank you SEED Donors for all you do!”
